July in Michigan is peak season for respiratory flare-ups. Heat, humidity, elevated ozone, and outdoor allergens hit hardest this month. For people managing asthma, chronic bronchitis, COPD, or allergy-triggered breathing issues, summer can feel like a constant battle just to get through the day comfortably.
Halotherapy, or dry salt therapy, has been used for generations to support respiratory wellness. The practice originates from Eastern European salt mines, where workers reported consistently clearer breathing over time. At Salinair Salt Room Spa, we recreate that environment using a commercial halogenerator and pharmaceutical-grade sodium chloride, ground to particles fine enough to travel deep into the airways.
This is a complementary wellness practice. It does not replace your prescribed inhaler, your doctor's guidance, or your existing treatment plan. What it does is give your airways a break, a 45-minute environment designed to support easier, cleaner breathing, session by session.
Halotherapy, also known as dry salt therapy, is the practice of breathing pharmaceutical-grade salt particles dispersed into an enclosed space by a commercial halogenerator. The particles are ground to 1 to 5 microns, fine enough to travel deep into the airways, where salt's natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties go to work. Sitting in the salt cave feels like sitting in very clean, still air. A standard session runs 45 minutes.
Reserve your session through the booking link and sign the digital waiver in advance. Wear comfortable, loose clothing.
You'll be welcomed and guided to the salt cave. The room is lined with natural salt and the air carries a faint, clean mineral scent.
The halogenerator runs continuously, dispersing pharmaceutical-grade salt particles at 1 to 5 microns. You breathe normally. No equipment, no masks, nothing to do except breathe and let the environment do its work.
Drink plenty of water after your session. Some people notice looser mucus or a mild urge to cough in the hours following, which is a normal sign the airways are clearing.
Dry salt therapy is used by people of all ages who want to support their respiratory wellness.
Children with asthma often struggle through allergy season, summer sports, and disrupted sleep. The salt cave is calm, non-invasive, and requires nothing except sitting and breathing. We bring the toys for kids to play in a giant salt box. The family session books the private cave so children and parents experience it together.
Adults managing asthma, seasonal allergies, chronic bronchitis, or frequent congestion often find that consistent halotherapy sessions support easier day-to-day breathing between flare-ups. For many, the relief they had been searching for was right here in Rochester Hills โ just minutes away, all along.
COPD, chronic bronchitis, and age-related respiratory changes can make every breath feel like effort. Older adults find the salt cave gentle, accessible, and deeply restful. Many members of our community visit weekly as a consistent part of their respiratory wellness routine.
Triggered by heat, humidity, allergens, or exercise. Halotherapy may support easier breathing between flare-ups.
Using a rescue or maintenance inhaler daily. Salt therapy complements, never replaces, your prescribed treatment.
Seasonal allergies, pet dander, mold, pollen. The salt environment may support the body's natural clearing response.
Acute or chronic. Salt's natural anti-inflammatory properties may support bronchial comfort and easier mucus clearance.
Chronic or seasonal sinus pressure and blockage. Many visitors report noticeably clearer breathing after their first visit.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Salt therapy is gentle, requires no exertion, and may support daily respiratory comfort.

I have navigated severe asthma since 2016 and breathing issues are a battle for me all too often. After my 1st 45-minute session here, I walked out able to take my first full belly breath in several years. My chest felt open, breathing was easier, and my mucus production dropped noticeably.
Sibrina Smith, Google ReviewI'm on week 2 of the unlimited month package and already feeling less mucus in my throat and chest due to seasonal allergies. Rooms very clean and the ladies are so helpful. Love relaxing with my complimentary hot tea.
HealthyTan Jae, Google ReviewFinding this place was a positive experience from beginning to end. The best part was that I felt 100% better after leaving. It's like a breath of fresh air. My allergy and sinus symptoms were relieved. I cannot wait to go back.
Tiffany Sammons, Google ReviewHalotherapy is a complementary wellness practice. Individual results vary. Continue all prescribed medications as directed by your doctor.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America ranks Metro Detroit first in the nation for asthma prevalence, emergency visits, and air quality impact. If you or your child live here, your lungs are working harder than almost anywhere else in the country. Halotherapy won't fix the air outside. But 45 minutes inside the cave may make a real difference in how you feel.
